Level Design Difficulties
Level Design was a major difficult to overcome. We had to ensure that the map was a suitable size, obstacles to allow player creativity, as well as think of the capabilities of enemy AI.
As the game revolves around tactical positioning and usage of traps, I focused the level on having multiple paths, and having obstacles that allow players to block pathways and use them strategically.
Game Design : Mechanics and Systems
Most of the Game Design issues came from balancing mechanics according to the enemy AI, as well as, figuring out ways for the mechanics to interact with one another. For example, directing enemies to traps by blocking them off with the Construct tile mechanic, and also positioning yourself out of enemy range by planning your path.
Co-Producing & Sound Design
Managing expectations and capability as a co-producer was also an important learning point as the project was ambitious with its mechanics and project scale.
At the same time, time management was a huge challenge as I had to produce all the art and animations while designing the game, and mixing and creating sound effects as the sound designer.
